About Pastor Ken Simmons

Pastor Simmons grew up in Elliston, a small town located in southwestern VA.  He attended Virginia Tech, graduating in 1986 with a B.S. degree in Landscape Architecture. After moving to Northern VA to pursue his career, Ken was met by Christians from the Crossroads Baptist Church who asked him a simple yet profound question: "If you were to die today, would you go to heaven... or do you have some doubt?"  They then showed him from the Bible how to be saved.  Ken asked Christ to save him and soon joined the Crossroads Baptist Church of Bailey's Crossroads, VA where he would meet his future wife Pat.
In 1989, Ken surrendered to God's call upon his life to preach and began attending the Fairfax Baptist Temple Missions Academy.  In 1994 he graduated with a degree in Pastoral Theology.  In 1996 Pastor Ken and Patricia  were commissioned by the Crossroads Baptist Church to start the Victory Independent Baptist Church in Roanoke VA.  Over the next eight years the church grew from just a handful of people to one of the most missions minded young churches in the country.

In April of 2003, at a conference in San Leandro, God burdened Pastor Simmons' heart about the spiritual needs and potential of the bay area and in particular, the city of Oakland.  After a time of prayer, fasting and counsel he led their church through the process of calling a godly pastor and returned to Crossroads Baptist to be commissioned to work in Oakland.  The Simmons moved west to California and after a few months of passing out tracts, inviting people and soul winning had their first service on November 21, 2004 in the Howard Elementary School.  Crossroads Baptist currently meets at 2521 Santa Clara Avenue, Alameda in a beautiful church facility.
